SSAT考试是美国、加拿大等国私立中学的非常重要的入学考试，是美国一些独立的非盈利机构主办的一种全国性私立中学入学考试，由美国、加拿大等国私立学校自行选用。SSAT为Secondary School Admission Test的首字母缩写，即为美国中学入学考试。它虽然主要是为了中学入学，但是，目前也在私立学校5、6年级的入学审核中广泛使用。
        SSAT主要是测量学生的数学、英文程度及理解力。测验分为数学（Quantitative）、语文（Verbal）、阅读（Reading）、作文（Writing sample）四部分；并分为低年级（目前就读5-7年级的考生）、和高年级（目前就读8-11年级的考生）两种检测。
        SSAT考试创办于1957年，由位于美国新泽西州普林斯顿市的中学入学考试委员会SSATB（Secondary School Admission Test Board）命题。SSAT在全球有600多个考场。SSAT和ISEE考试内容相似，难度相同，只是考试形式有一些区别。SSAT和ISEE考试均由英文、数学和作文组成。        SSAT在美加以外地区的考试，每年于11、12、1、3、4月举行，中国地区的考试地点为上海，考前四周报名截止。在美国每年举办7次考试，在北美以外的国家和地区每年兴办5次考试。具体情况登陆SSAT官方网站： http://www.ssat.org。SSAT主要是测量学生的数学、英文程度及理解力，SSAT考试作文不计分，但会被送到报考学校的招生部门作为录取的参考。SSAT考试分为低年级（在读5-7年级的考生）和高年级（在读8-11年级的考生）两种考试。
